Course Description

The course will discuss the extensive and complex requirements of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), indirect rate pools for fringe, overhead and G&A; contract types (T&M, CPFF, CPAF, FP, FPLH) and lessons learned about how to structure the client’s company to avoid noncompliance.

  • Federal Acquisition Regulations and Cost Accounting Standards

  • Recommendations for structuring the company to maintain compliance with the FAR and CAS

  • Daily labor recording requirements

  • Unallowable costs

  • Indirect pool structure and calculations for Fringe, Overhead, and G&A rates

  • Contract types: Time & Materials, Cost Plus Fixed Fee, Cost Plus Award Fee, Fixed Price, and Fixed Price Labor Hours

  • Working with the Defense Contract Audit Agency and Defense Contract Management Agency

Mick has 25+ years of government contracting experience.  He has a BS in Political Science from the University of Idaho, an MBA from the University of Oregon, and a Master's in Government Contracting from George Washington University.  He has worked for defense contractors in Seattle, Saudi Arabia, Germany, New York City, Northern Virginia and Norfolk, Virginia on various DoD and NASA contracts.  Mick successfully managed the transition of a Silicon Valley high-tech engineering firm from commercial accounting to government accounting, resulting in a large contract from a Fortune 100 government contractor on a major government weapons program.  Mick successfully started up a SDVOSB (service disabled veteran owned small business) and managed the successful certification of their accounting system by the Defense Contract Audit Agency.
