This presentation provides tax professionals with a discussion of some of these abusive arrangements as well as an overview of potential IRS programs that can assist their clients in mitigating criminal exposure and civil penalties.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify transactions and schemes that the IRS considers abusive

  • Determine how these transactions and schemes are devised, including through a client's usage of promoters

  • Recognize IRS programs that may be used to protect clients who have already entered into these types of schemes
