Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of Medicare, focusing on the various parts of the program, eligibility requirements, enrollment processes, and coverage options. Attendees will gain an understanding of Original Medicare, including Parts A and B, as well as Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Prescription Drug Plans (Part D). It will also address the limitations of Medicare coverage and the importance of supplemental insurance options, such as Medigap plans.

Congress passed Medicare in 1965 as health coverage for those age 65 and older, regardless of income and medical history. However, it’s been expanded to cover younger and disabled people. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of Medicare and make informed decisions regarding their healthcare coverage.

Learning Objectives

  • Define the eligibility criteria for Medicare, including age requirements and conditions for those under 65

  • Identify the different parts, including the benefits and coverage provided by Part A (hospital coverage), Part B (medical coverage), Advantage plans (Part C), and prescription drug coverage (Part D)

  • Recognize the enrollment guidelines, including those receiving Social Security benefits, and the implications of delaying enrollment

  • Evaluate the limitations of coverage, including services that are not covered, such as most dental and long-term care

  • Outline the implications of income-related adjustments for Part B and Part D premiums
